E-waste (WEEE) collection management

In the United States alone, the population generates about 6.9 million tonnes of e-waste each year. Globally, the World Economic Forum estimates that people will produce around 81.6 million tonnes of e-waste yearly by 2030. That’s a huge problem — especially when only 17.4% of the produced e-waste is being properly recycled worldwide.

About half of the US States have so-called e-waste ‘Take back’ programs to manage electronic waste. Similar to the European Union, most e-waste legislation in the US follows the extended producer responsibility (EPR) principle. As a result, producers collect and treat e-waste at their own expense. E-waste rules apply to certain product categories (mostly consumer equipment).

Electronic Waste can be taken back either via collection points such as shops and service centers, but also through containers distributed across frequent city locations. Collecting such containers usually requires a vehicle with a hydraulic arm which means extra costs and time – and these multiply if the containers are only half-full.

At Sensoneo, we understand the challenges associated with managing specialized waste streams like WEEE. That’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive solution that integrates smart sensors directly into WEEE waste containers. These sensors continuously monitor the fill levels of the containers and transmit real-time data to our advanced waste management platform.

The key advantage of our solution lies in its ability to optimize waste pickup processes. By providing precise and up-to-date information on fill levels, our platform enables waste management professionals to plan pickups more effectively, reducing unnecessary trips and optimizing route efficiency. This not only saves valuable time but also minimizes fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions, contributing to a greener and more sustainable collection.

Through our intuitive platform, owners of the container infrastructure have a complete overview of the fill status of WEEE waste containers in real time. Whether it’s monitoring a single container or managing an entire network of containers, our centralized platform provides actionable insights that empower decision-making and streamline operations.

Ultrasonic sensor for fill level monitoring

Ultrasonic sensor for fill level monitoring

Sensoneo Smart sensors measure fill-levels in containers via ultrasonic beams. Our sensors can monitor any type of waste (mixed waste, paper, plastics, glass, clothing, bio-waste, liquids, electronics, metal….) in containers and dumpsters of various types and sizes. Sensoneo’s solution is a result of in-house R&D.

We design, develop and produce the sensors and all waste management software in-house and we are proud of it.
